The Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority met with a team of two TikTok officials, Mr. Ferdous Al Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations, and Mr. Gautam Vohra, Head of Legal Operations looking after the South-Asian regions today. The meeting was also attended by the Director and officials from the Department of Media, Creative Industry and Intellectual Property (DoMCIIP), MoICE. The primary objective centered around establishing a partnership with TikTok and providing necessary guidance for facilitation and regulation of Bhutanese TikTok users. The officials were briefed on the safety features and community guidelines of TikTok and also explained the content moderation and reporting mechanism of TikTok. The TikTok officials have also highlighted the evolution of TikTok from an entertainment platform to a versatile tool that serves various purposes, including content creation, product promotion and contribution towards the digital economy. BICMA intends to further collaborate with TikTok to make this platform a healthy, creative tool supporting the digital transformation of the country.
The TikTok delegation are on a 3-day visit to Bhutan during which they will meet with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment, the GovTech Agency, the Royal Bhutan Police, Youth Groups and few influencers.
