A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Bhutan Info Comm and Media Authority (BICMA) and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of Thailand (NBTC) on November 14, 2016 at the IMPACT Challenger Hall, the venue for the ITU World Telecom 2016. The MoU was signed by Mr. Chencho Dorji, Director General of Bhutan Info Comm and Media Authority and Mr. Takorn Tantasith, Secretary General of the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission of the Kingdom of Thailand in the presence of the Hon’ble Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Royal Government of Bhutan and the Chairman of NBTC and other officials from both the sides.

The signing of the MoU was initiated to further strengthen the existing friendly relations and to boost cooperation between BICMA and the NBTC to enhance cooperation in the field of spectrum management, broadcast and telecommunications through the exchange of ideas, information, personnel, skills and expertise. Emphasis of the cooperation will be in the areas of spectrum management, monitoring and licensing of radio-communications, regulations in broadcasting and telecommunications, consumer protection and dispute resolutions in relation to broadcasting and telecommunication service, promotion of technical innovation in broadcasting and telecommunications fields.

It is anticipated that this cooperation will serve to support regulatory policies and actions in keeping with mutual interests, international best practices, the public convenience and necessity of the citizens of both the nations. This understanding shall be in force for a period of 2 years and shall be automatically renewed based on mutual agreement.
